Jolabokaflod PDX 2019
December 28 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Join me at the second annual celebration of Jolabokaflod, the Icelandic Yule Book Flood! While Icelanders celebrate on Christmas Eve, Portland will be celebrating between Christmas and New Year’s, to add an event the whole family can enjoy during the holidays. I’ll be there with my new book, The Change Code: A Practical Guide to Making a Difference in a Polarized World.
Nowhere in the known universe is there a safer haven for a book than in Iceland. While Christmas in the U.S. might be about toys, gadgets, and other knicknacks, in Iceland, it’s about books.
Local books aren’t published year-round the way they are elsewhere, but at the end of the year – in time for the “Yule Book Flood,” or Jolabokaflod.
That kicks off the book-gifting frenzy, which culminates on Christmas Eve. This is when Icelanders open their gifted books so the rest of the holiday can be enjoyed curled up with a good story.
More than 25 local indie authors (SEE BELOW!) will be at Nordic NW with their books. There will be folk music acts, a book donation drive, and fantastic Nordic-themed folk art in the pop-up shop. Please come out to support your local authors and learn a little about the Jolabokaflod spirit!
